Why aptitude tests can't help in choosing a career
Aptitude tests only measure what you're currently capable of, not what you're passionate about or what you can become in the future.
Aptitude comes from the Latin word 'aptus' which means fit or capable of. Hence, aptitude tests only measure what you're currently capable of, not what you're passionate about or what you can be capable of in the future. These tests may measure your abilities, but they don't measure who you are. Every individual has unique values, interests and aspirations that no aptitude test can fully capture. Your career is not just about what you're capable of, it more importantly is what excites you, motivates you and what you would love to do everyday. Moreover, focusing only on present strengths and weaknesses, aptitude tests ignore one of the most powerful human qualities-the ability to grow and improve. To let a test decide a career is to mistake a snapshot for the whole story. In the end, we are not defined by the abilities we possess, but by the possibilities we choose to pursue.
